A Togal.AI alternative for electrical device counts
Togal.AI is AI takeoff for several trades: its Togal button measures rooms, areas and linear runs, and its Image Search counts a symbol across the set after you box one example23. Growth is $299 per user a month, billed yearly1. AmpCount does one job, electrical counts. Instead of a search per boxed symbol, it starts from the legend, counts every device and fixture type on every sheet, holds back near matches for review and checks the schedule, for $149 a month for up to 3 people, or $1,490 a year.
What Togal.AI is
Togal.AI is browser-based AI takeoff and estimating software for general contractors and trades including painting, flooring, drywall, framing, glazing, doors and electrical2. On electrical sets, Togal says you box a duplex receptacle and Image Search runs that symbol across every sheet, while Text Search pulls fixture tags and panel designations2. It accepts PDF, JPEG, PNG and TIFF, including scanned sheets, and lists five issued U.S. patents24.
AmpCount vs Togal.AI at a glance
| AmpCount | Togal.AI | |

Where Togal.AI is strong
- Covers several trades and measures areas and linear runs, not just counts2.
- Reads scanned and photographed plans, which AmpCount can't2.
- Drawing comparison that shows which device counts moved between plan revisions2.
- Published price, unlimited takeoffs and searches, and outside collaborators without a license1.
Where AmpCount is different
The legend is the starting point
Togal counts what you box2. AmpCount takes every symbol from the legend, so receptacles, GFCIs, floor boxes, switches and every fixture type are counted on every sheet without setting up a search for each.
Near matches wait for you
Image Search returns every hit that looks like the boxed symbol2. In AmpCount, drawings that look close but aren't an exact geometric match go to an uncertain list and never enter the total until an estimator confirms them.
Type tags tied to the schedule
Togal.CHAT can answer questions about schedules2. AmpCount reads the type tag next to each fixture, totals each type and shows the type and sheet where the plans and the schedule disagree.
Priced per team, monthly or yearly
$149 a month, or $1,490 a year, covers up to 3 people. Three users on Togal Growth list at $10,764 a year, billed yearly1.
The matching is plain geometry, step by step, as shown in how AmpCount works. A vision model helps read titles, legends and schedules but never confirms a mark or counts, as the AI electrical takeoff guide explains.
Where the time goes counting in Togal
Togal's strength is speed on areas and runs: the Togal button returns room-by-room areas and linear runs on its own2. Counts work differently. You box a receptacle and Image Search returns every hit2, then you do the same for the GFCI, the floor box, each switch type and every fixture type, and review each result set. Togal's own FAQ is clear that the estimator still classifies items and reviews the takeoff4.
AmpCount skips the per-symbol search because the legend already lists every symbol on the job. The whole set is counted in one pass, and the review is one list: near matches to confirm, plus any fixture type whose total doesn't match the schedule.
Cost for a 3-person team
Togal lists Growth at $299 per user a month, billed yearly, as of November 1, 20261. Three estimators come to $10,764 a year, the same per-seat list price as STACK's Premium plan17. Teams of 4 or more move to the Business plan, priced by quote1.
AmpCount is $149 a month for up to 3 people, or $1,490 a year, and you can pay month to month instead of a year up front. It does less: electrical counts only, on vector PDFs. If your team pays for Togal seats mainly for electrical counts, the difference matters. If you need areas, runs and other trades, Togal covers ground AmpCount doesn't.
Running an electrical bid through AmpCount
- Use the vector PDF from the engineer rather than a scan. Togal reads scans2; AmpCount doesn't.
- Upload the set. AmpCount reads the legend and counts every sheet.
- Work through the uncertain list, then the fixture schedule result.
- Attach your item codes to symbols once, so exports match your estimate.
- Export counts to Excel, CSV or the estimating sheet and carry them into whatever you price in, even an Excel estimate built from scratch.
Pricing the counts by hand for now? The electrical estimate template and the electrical estimate calculator take quantities straight from the export.
Before you switch
- Check how many of your sets arrive as vector PDFs. AmpCount can't count scans.
- List what you use Togal for beyond electrical counts: areas, runs, other trades, drawing comparison.
- Note your Togal renewal date, since plans are billed yearly1.
- Take a set you already counted with Image Search, run it through AmpCount and compare totals per device type.
Choose Togal.AI if
- Your bids include other trades, or room areas and linear runs, not only device counts, the ground general construction takeoff software covers.
- Your plan sets often arrive scanned or photographed.
Choose AmpCount if
- Your Togal seats are mostly used for electrical counts, not areas or runs.
- You want the schedule check to happen on its own, not as a question you remember to ask.
- You want one monthly price for a team of up to 3.
Cancel anytime. Full refund within 14 days if it doesn't fit your plans.
Questions
What is Togal AI?
Togal AI (written Togal.AI) is browser-based takeoff and estimating software for general contractors and several trades23. Its Togal button measures rooms, areas and linear runs, Image Search counts a symbol across the set after you box one example23, and Growth is listed at $299 per user a month, billed yearly, as of November 1, 20261.
Is AmpCount cheaper than Togal.AI?
AmpCount is $149 a month for up to 3 people, or $1,490 a year on the yearly plan. Togal lists Growth at $299 per user a month, billed yearly, as of November 1, 2026: $3,588 a year for one user1. Togal also covers other trades, areas and lengths2, which AmpCount doesn't.
How is AmpCount's counting different from Togal's Image Search?
Image Search starts from a symbol you box and finds it across the set2, and Countfire's Smart Select starts the same way, from one symbol you pick5. AmpCount starts from the legend and matches every symbol type by its drawn geometry on every sheet, then holds back anything that isn't an exact match for review.
Can AmpCount read scanned plans?
No. AmpCount counts vector PDFs only and flags scanned sheets instead of guessing. Togal accepts scans and images24.
Does AmpCount measure conduit or areas?
No. That's where Togal is strong: the Togal button returns room areas and linear runs2. AmpCount counts devices and fixtures only, so keep a measuring tool for conduit, or look at Drawer AI, an electrical-only tool that routes conduit and wire6.
Do I need a demo to start?
No. Togal's sign-up goes through a demo4; AmpCount's doesn't. Subscribe for $149 a month and run your next electrical bid. If it doesn't fit your plans within 14 days, we refund you in full.
Does AmpCount use AI to count?
The count is deterministic geometry: two symbols either match the legend drawing or they don't. Anything in between is marked uncertain for an estimator to decide. AI reads sheet titles, legend names and the fixture schedule, and can add a second opinion on uncertain marks as a hint; it never confirms a mark or counts.
